  • Core and shell transformers: A core type transformer has two vertical legs or limbs with two horizontal sections. HV and LV coils are placed on both limbs. A shell type transformer on the other hand, has a central limb and two outer limbs. Both HV, LV coils are placed on the central limb.
  • Oil cooled transformer: Large transformers used in power distribution or electrical substations that have their core and coils immersed in oil which both cools and insulates them.
  • Dry-type transformers: Air-cooled transformers that provide an economical method of correcting a lower or higher voltage rating for efficient operation of electrical equipment.
